The sun was setting over the marshlands of southern Louisiana as we made our way up the Mississippi after an eventful day of inshore fishing. Our center-console vessel roared past great blue herons stalking their prey in the reeds and shrimp boats drawing their nets from the channel. Ospreys returned to their cypress homes and chirped victoriously with their taloned catch. Water glistened in the rooster tail of our boat hugging the bend as warm air and brackish spray soothed our sunburned grins. The harbor came into sight: The End of the World, Venice, Louisiana.
